S.S. Keewatin: Last of the edwardian passenger liners exhibit opens
The S.S. Keewatin exhibit tells the story of the Keewatin, from her construction in Glasgow in 1907 to her arrival in Kingston in 2023, as she fits within the greater picture of Canadian maritime and transportation history. Using historic photographs, testimony from real people who sailed on the vessel (including passengers and employees) and artefacts drawn from her long operational history, the S.S. Keewatin exhibit provides context for her construction, operation and retirement. The exhibit concludes with an acknowledgement of the legions of volunteers and supporters who are essential to her maintenance and restoration
Prior to or after touring the ship, visitors can explore the stories of Keewatin’s rich history in the exhibit through interactive displays, artifacts, recordings of past crew members, video and graphic displays, plus video of her arrival to her final home in Kingston at the Great Lakes Museum. Best of all, the exhibit will remain open year-round, allowing visitors to experience the ship even when it is closed for the winter season. And it doesn’t end there, with plans to keep adding to the exhibit, including a ‘virtual tour’ of the ship that would allow those who cannot access the ship to still experience it.
