Great Lakes Museum Announces New Board Chair

Kingston, Ontario – On September 15, 2024, Kelly Pope-Wiley was elected board chair for the Great Lakes
Museum. At a time of great change, Kelly’s extensive experience and commitment to community makes her
the ideal person to steward the museum through this period of growth.

Kelly brings over 20 years of progressive marketing and communications experience across education, media,
fundraising, and provincial and municipal government roles. Kelly has an Advanced Diploma in Business
Marketing from St. Lawrence College (1995) and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Laurentian
University (2016). Currently, she is a Consultant with IG Wealth Management. Prior to joining the Museum’s
Board, Kelly served as a director on the Community Foundation of Greater Kingston’s board, a trustee for the
Davies Foundation and a member of many community committees supporting the arts, sports, tourism,
innovation and marketing initiatives.

“Kelly has been on the GLM board of directors since 2018; previously serving as the Co Vice-Chair. We are
thrilled to have Kelly take the helm,” says Executive Director Bep Schippers. “The breadth and depth of her
knowledge and experience will be a tremendous asset in developing the museum’s new strategic plan and
guide us toward a bright future.”

“It is an exciting time for the Great Lakes Museum and I am proud to be one of many volunteers that support
it,” says Pope-Wiley. “The board is comprised of very experienced, talented, passionate, and communityminded people and as chair I get to work alongside them and our incredible staff. Watch for more great news
and growth by the Museum in the years to come.”

With a growing staff, the arrival of the S.S Keewatin and a new vision for the museum, Kelly’s commitment of
her time and talents will help ensure smooth sailing into the future.
